About[edit]

After Erica Cartman is given a special 'Other' bathroom by Principal Victoria, kicking off a controversy about trans* people, Wendy Testaburger began identifying as male. He began referring to himself as Wendyl Testaburger and dressing according to his new gender identity. He did successfully gain access to the school's 'other' bathroom though, infuriating Erica and earning the ire of Principal Victoria.

His current status was unknown for a few weeks: during the crowd shot at the end of his first appearance, Wendyl could be seen and was not cheering with the other kids. But a couple weeks later, Wendy seemed to return to identifying as a female, and was seen on the girls' volleyball team.

Bonus Factoids[edit]

  • Wendy's dressed masculine before - we see her as a boy in "Something You Can Do With Your Finger" in season 4.
  • Some viewers, particularly those in the trans community, were disappointed when Wendyl's gender identity unceremoniously returned to "cis" by "The Magic Bush" and "Cock Magic".
  • Changing the genders and/or sexes of South Park characters is nothing new - fans have done it for years! The idea of a male Wendy was previously known as Wesley , Wendell , or sometimes, McDonald (a reference to the legend Wendy is named after the restaurant chain!)
