Fan Question: Just watched “Go Fund Yourself”… was that scene with Dan Snyder crying a parody of something? I feel like I saw that in a movie once…

Answer: Well it’s not from a movie, but it’s definitely a pretty awesome parody. That scene — with Redskins owner Dan Snyder picking up the thrown out newspaper and crying — is an homage to Keep America Beautiful’s long-running ad campaign featuring “The Crying Indian”.

The advertisement (above) featured “Iron Eyes Cody” and first ran in the early 1970s.

To re-create that 90 degree “head turn” from the commercial, animators needed to build series of special head poses. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how they did that…
