S26E1: "Cupid Ye." discussion

Postby Big-Will » Mon Feb 06, 2023 10:29 pm

Season 26, episode 1 - "Cupid Ye"

Craig and Scott pitch their movie idea to Kyle.

"You don't really run Hollywood, right?" - Matt and Trey visit the old cliché about Jews running Hollywood. Also, Cartman is jealous of the friendship that’s developed between Kyle and Tolkien and decides to do something about it. The title hints at Cupid Me returning for Valentine's Day.

I think "Cupid Me" will actually be Kanye. This might be a bizarro episode of Cartman Finds Love.

Cartman's jealous of Kyle and Tolkien, in the same vein that he wanted to get Tolkien and Nicole together using cupid me, this time he's gonna use Cupid Ye (Kanye) to split up Tolkien and Kyle as friends. If i'm right i'll be losing my sh*t!

- "Cupid Ye"
- Talking about Kyle, a Jew, running Hollywood (Kanye talked about this)
How can it not be Kanye

They got a character model for him and everything. Time to bring back everyone's favorite gay fish. ;)

We should have known something was up with Kanye when he dropped a syllable from his name. That's only something crazy people do.
Ah well, at least it's funny when stupid people think they are smart.

Thought this episode was a perfect way to start the season. The TikTok references and Kanye jokes felt so perfect and how they integrated Kanye in the show without paralleling the real world is just amazing. Cupid Me being an actual being who can manipulate people's thoughts was hysterical, and need I say more about Kyle "running hollywood"? HILARIOUS. AMAZING SAITRE THROUGH AND THROUGH. And Cartman doing this all for Stan? I know it's been shown that he cares for Stan but it's just sweet to see. Trey and Matt know how to start a season right, hoping the next 5 episodes keep this quality up!!!Very solid way to start the season!

....Also classic Randy once again? Is he fully back or what!

I genuinely expected "Cupid Ye" to be entirely a figment of Cartman's imagination. Especially after that scene where he's whispering things to Tolkien while he sleeps and it ends with the shadow of Fatass climbing out the window. And the medication he's supposed to take would be something Fatass is supposed to be on. So I expected the showdown to ultimately be a metaphor for Cartman convincing himself to take his meds. But the arrow rampage through the school made it clear that others can see him to.

Cupid Me/Ye being a real entity is confusing though because up until Valentine's Day, he's always portrayed as something Fatass is imagining while he himself is doing all the stuff "Cupid Me" is doing. I guess chalk it up to holiday magic.

It always riles me when Fatass can get people to believe his bullcrap, and I really want comeuppance for him before the credits role. In that way, I share Kyle's frustration with Fatass over the years. Didn't quite get that this week with Fatass being the hero in the end. But he sure as hell didn't learn any lesson, which is par for the course for Cartman. No lesson other than "don't say the overtly racist part out loud."

The biggest laugh I had was actually the end credits where they put Matt front and center and listed Trey as "assistant to Mr. Stone".

These 6 episode seasons are going to make me nostalgic for those 14+ episode years back in the day. Remember when season 2 had 18 episodes? I 'member....

Hold on there, buckaroo, we don't KNOW what the other kids saw. We saw them freaking out over something, but nobody says "wow, it's a grammy-award winning musical artist lyricist genuis!!". Maybe Cartman ran around in a Cupid Ye outfit and arrowed people and they freaked out over that. :P

The episode is clearly set in Cartman's imagination.

Confirmation for this is in the original Cupid Me episode, where we see Cartman being molestered by Cupid Me at the end of the episode, but all his mother sees is Cartman jacking off on the toilet and smiles to herself in the belief that he's growing up normally.
