Fan Question: Why don’t you use picture cutouts of celebrities anymore?
Fan Question: Is there a reason Matt and Trey started animating celebrities instead of using the picture cutouts like they originally did? I know they only did it with some celebrities, but I always loved the Saddam cutout and all the Christina Aguilera hallucinations….
Answer: The truth is, probably 98% of the time, celebrities are animated in South Park. It’s not really a then-VS-now thing. Remember Kathie Lee Gifford in “Weight Gain 4000” or Patrick Duffy in “Volcano”?
Since the show started back in 1997, almost all celebrities have gotten the animation treatment. But as you mentioned, there are the rare exceptions — like Christina Aguilera (in “Timmy 2000”), Saddam Hussein (most notably in “Not Without My Anus” and “Probably”), Mel Gibson (in “The Passion of the Jew” & “200”) and Ben Affleck (in “How To Eat With Your Butt”). Although even Ben Affleck got animated two seasons later in “Fat Butt and Pancake Head”.
But to answer your question, it’s more of a personal decision by Matt and Trey than anything else. If they want to do it — including in any future episodes — they definitely will.
